The Pedaler -- May 9, 2015
This is not about an exercise mechanism. Today I saw a family riding bikes. Father was in front, leading the crowd. There were two brothers following behind, each trying to pedal harder than the other. Then there was the Pedaler, a small girl following behind the men in her family. While the boys were having no struggle keeping up with Dad and his twenty-six inch tires; this little girl had to work a little harder. Her pedals would circulate about three times to the boys' one. She tried her hardest to keep up, but they were approaching a hill. It was a down hill escapade though, so there was the assumption that she would get a break. This little girl did not allow herself for a break. She pedaled down the hill. The tires gained more momentum than her feet could keep up with. Her pedals were spinning wild and fast. Much too fast for her legs to move. And yet in all this time her feet never left the rotating pedals, no matter how fast they went around. When I was that age I didn't have as much determination as she did, and I hope she keeps that determination and willpower her whole life.
